Ivanka Trump greeted by empty seats in Tokyo

Ivanka Trump had a celebrity like arrival in Japan, but despite the headlines and the fanfare, the President’s daughter failed to draw in the crowds.

Trump arrived in Tokyo as she was the honored guest at a government-sponsored conference on women’s empowerment.

According to the New York Times, Ivanka delivered her speech to a half-empty room, or as her father would have said: a half-full room. As shown in these pictures of the hall shared by The Independent.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe introduced the first daughter and reportedly minutes before ‘ushers hustled to move audience members forward several rows’ because the room was so empty.

Friday is also a holiday in Japan and may be to blame for the light turnout and other officials pointed at the security restrictions of the event.

But it just might be the Trump’s popularity is not as high in Japan as it used to be.  According to a survey last month by the Pew Research Center, less than a quarter of the population in Japan  is confident that Mr. Trump will “do the right thing in world affairs.”
