In the wake of the attack in New York City, President Trump went after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday over the suspect’s U.S. entry method.

“The terrorist came into our country through what is called the ‘Diversity Visa Lottery Program,’ a Chuck Schumer beauty,” Trump tweeted. “I want merit based.”

The president then posted two more tweets, while referring to Fox News’ show ‘Fox & Friends.’

“We are fighting hard for Merit Based immigration, no more Democrat Lottery Systems. We must get MUCH tougher (and smarter). @foxandfriends,” Trump wrote. “‘Senator Chuck Schumer helping to import Europes problems’ said Col.Tony Shaffer. We will stop this craziness! @foxandfriends.”

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, plowed a pickup truck down a bike path on Tuesday, killing eight people and injuring over 12.

WNBC reports, Saipov “left a note in the vehicle claiming he committed the attack for ISIS, according to law enforcement sources.”

He was shot by police during the incident and is in custody.

“Saipov is from Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan,” according to ABC News. “He entered the United States in 2010 through the so-called Diversity Visa Lottery, a special program started in 1995 that according to the State Department hands out about 55,000 visas per year to applicants.”
