Ivanka Trump backs out of President Trump's Asia trip to focus on tax reform

Ivanka Trump will no longer join her father on his important trip to Asia next week.

The first daughter and adviser to the president will join a number of top aides who have decided to instead remain home to advocate for tax reform while President Donald Trump embarks on his trip.

Trump insisted that daughter Ivanka Trump, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and economic adviser Gary Cohn remain in the United States and rally support for the Republican tax plan, according a Politico

According to Axios, they will be doing so by holding “tax-reform events in crucial states and blue House districts held by Republicans and speak with national and regional media.”

Though Ivanka has reportedly canceled meetings in China and South Korea, she will visit Japan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe -- but not alongside her father. Meanwhile, the president's trip will cover much of the region, spanning more than a week and including visits to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines.

In that time, he is anticipated to deliver an address at the South Korean National Assembly, attend two conferences focused on Asian economics, meet with Chinese officials, and hold discussions about diminishing the North Korean nuclear threat.

It is unclear if Trump intends to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will also be in attendance at one of the summits.
