Bills get WR Kelvin Benjamin in surprise trade with Panthers

The AFC East just got a whole lot more interesting.

The Buffalo Bills acquired wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin in a trade with the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2018 third and seventh round pick.

The Bills are off to a surprising 5-2 start and find themselves just one win behind the division-leading Patriots (6-2).

The addition of Benjamin gives the Bills a legitimate No. 1 receiving threat for quarterback Tyrod Taylor and a complement for wide receiver Jordan Matthews.

Bills receivers currently rank last in the league in receptions (45) and receiving yards (594).

Benjamin has 32 catches for 475 yards and two touchdowns this season.

The trade is a bit more puzzling for the Panthers.

Carolina (5-3) is in second place in the NFC South with just one more loss than the division-leading Saints (5-2).

Without Benjamin and tight end Greg Olsen not expected back from a surgically repaired foot for another month, Cam Newton is left without two dangerous weapons in his receiving corps.
