President of 'The New Republic' takes leave amid sexual harassment accusations

With the world of media reeling over widespread allegations of sexual misconduct, now Hamilton Fish V, president of the left-leaning magazine The New Republic, is one of the latest to face scrutiny.

In an email obtained by the New York Times’ Sydney Ember, New Republic owner Win McCormack writes several people are alleging that “interactions between Ham Fish and a number of women employees” have created an “uncomfortable” work environment.

Fish, who joined the magazine last year, will now be taking a leave of absence pending an independent investigation. The move comes after his name appeared on a female-crowdsourced Google spreadsheet dubbed the “[expletive] media men” list, which came into fruition following

Fish is the second person to be accused of misconduct at The New Republic. The magazine’s former literary editor admitted to inappropriate behavior towards women just a week earlier.

BuzzFeed too has also been closely monitoring the list. According to Business Insider, several of the company’s employees names are on the spreadsheet, prompting an investigation.
