Teen charged with 20 sex assaults sentenced to just 45 days

A Michigan high school student who was once charged with 20 counts of sexual assault for raping at least three teenage girls was sentenced to only a month and a half in a juvenile facility.

Based on the deal, the teen is expected to be home with his family before Christmas.

The now 16-year-old Brighton Township teen, whose identity was withheld because of his age, accepted a plea agreement Thursday to six of the felonies, Fox 2 reports.

Under the agreement, the teen has to serve 45 days at a juvenile facility, register as a sex offender for life and possibly complete an outpatient sex rehab program in Monroe following his release.

The lenient sentence has left the three young victims and their families terrified and angry.

"She has a life sentence; all of these girls do. And to give him 45 days doesn't even seem fair to what these girls have gone through," said one parent, identified only as Ashley.

Parents of the victims told Fox 2 that the boy's probation officer and defense attorney said that testing done by experts showed that he didn't need to be sent to a facility for more than a year. The parents also said they know of more victims who have not come forward.

"He has practiced the same M.O. and has practiced the same tactics with multiple young girls," another parent, Jackie, told the outlet. "(I'm worried) he's going to continue to offend and that's the thing all of our girls were most concerned about."

According to the Livingston Daily, the teen sexually assaulted the girls in February 2016 when he was 14. His youngest victim was 12.

Assistant County prosecutor Marilyn Bradford said during the hearing that the teen raped one of the victims in a ditch behind a movie theater.

He then went to the girl's home to apologize and raped her again. The teen did the same thing to another victim. Bradford said after the boy sexually assaulted the girl, he went to her home and banged on the door until she "broke down" and opened it. He told the girl he was there to apologize.

"She kept telling him no. He grabbed her by the face and started kissing her," Bradford said, adding that the boy then raped the girl in her home.

In each of the incidents, Bradford said the boy used social media to gain the trust of his victims and learn their vulnerabilities. She said he used his size to overpower them.
