Mother arrested for beating up teen after fight video goes viral

A Texas mother is behind bars after a video went viral on social media that shows her brutally attacking a teenage girl.

The brawl happened in the courtyard of Miller High School in Corpus Christi, the Caller Times reports.

In the clip, posted by the victim's mother Julie Pinon, 34-year-old Mary Alice Hernandez is seen punching and striking Pinon's daughter as people cheer.

At one point during the video, the teen falls and Hernandez continues to pummel her. The woman eventually runs away leaving the girl on the ground.

In a Facebook post, Pinon wrote that her daughter was attacked after she got into a fight with Hernandez's daughter.

"My daughter did not want to fight the woman back, partly out of respect, and also because the woman clearly had an entourage that would have, without a doubt, hurt my daughter even worse," Pinon wrote.

Corpus Christi Independent School District Police Chief Kirby Warnke told the Caller Times they worked with the city's police department to track down Hernandez.

She's now being held at the Nueces County Jail on a warrant for assault causing bodily injury. Her bail was set at $25,000.
