UNC point guard Joel Berry reportedly broke his hand after losing a video game

On Monday, North Carolina announced that starting senior point guard Joel Berry will be out four weeks with a broken bone in his right (shooting) hand.

Considering the fact that Berry is the team’s top returning player and was the Final Four MOP last season, this was bad news for the Tar Heels.

Making matters worse is how Berry reportedly suffered the injury. According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, Berry broke his hand on a door after losing a video game to teammate Theo Pinson and a UNC student manager.

This explanation may be why Pinson was evasive when media members asked about Berry’s injury.

With Berry out of action, the Tar Heels will have to rely on sophomore Seventh Woods and freshman Jalek Felton to share point guard duties. Pinson is also a capable passer and playmaker, so he will be counted on as well.

North Carolina opens up its season on Nov. 10 against Northern Iowa.
