Trump denies forgetting soldier’s name, says he has 'one of the great memories of all time'

President Trump on Wednesday dismissed the claim that he forgot fallen soldier Sgt. La David Johnson’s name while talking to his widow.

Speaking to members of the press, he said, “There was no hesitation,” then, while pointing at his head, continued, “one of the great memories of all time.”

He also noted that when the call was placed, “They put a chart in front, La David, it says ‘La David Johnson.’”

Myeshia Johnson, the soldier’s widow, recently appeared on ABC's 'Good Morning America' and shared her memory of the call.

“I heard him stumbling on trying to remember my husband's name, and that's what hurt me the most, because if my husband is out here fighting for our country and he risked his life for our country, why can't you remember his name?" she said.

That conversation was also heard by Democratic Representative Frederica Wilson, who was reportedly present in the same car with Johnson when the call came in.

“I heard him say, 'Well I guess you know he knew what he was signing up for, but it still hurts,'" Wilson told ABC News.
