Los Angeles Dodgers move on to first World Series since 1988

For the first time in nearly 30 years, the Los Angeles Dodgers are back in the World Series.

The Dodgers are moving on to the Fall Classic after defeating the defending champion Chicago Cubs 11-1 in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series.

Cody Bellinger started the offensive onslaught early with an RBI double off Chicago starting pitcher Jose Quintana in the top of the first inning. Home runs from left fielder Enrique Hernandez in each of the next two innings and an RBI single from Justin Turner put the Dodgers up 7-0 by the third.

Los Angeles went up 9-0 with two additional runs in the fourth inning off the bat of Logan Forsythe. Chicago's Kris Bryant cut the deficit with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, but it was the only run the Cubs would score.

Hernandez again homered in the top of the ninth inning to finalize the commanding 11-1 victory.

The Dodgers, who secured the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the entire postseason thanks to their tremendous 104-58 regular season record, are moving on to face either the New York Yankees or Houston Astros. The Yankees currently lead the Astros 3-2 in the American League Championship Series.

Game 1 of the 2017 World Series will be played on Tuesday, October 24.
