'Missing' Mandalay Bay security guard shot by gunman breaks silence

The Mandalay Bay hero security guard who was shot in the thigh by the Las Vegas gunman has resurfaced, this time on Ellen DeGeneres’s couch.

The comedian tweeting out a picture teasing a segment with security guard Jesus Campos and building engineer Stephen Schuck.

The surprise appearance comes as news outlets had begun referring to Campos as "missing" after skipping out on scheduled interviews the week prior.

A clip of the exchange first posted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal shows Campos describing those harrowing moments on the 32nd floor.

“I heard rapid fire, and at first I took cover. I felt a burning sensation. I went to go lift my pant leg up and I saw the blood. That’s when I called it in on my radio that shots have been fired.”

Police have hailed 25-year-old Campos a hero for perhaps causing shooter Stephen Paddock to stop firing at the crowd, which killed at least 58, for fear authorities were closing in. Paddock killed himself shortly afterward. Officers later said it was a miracle the security guard survived after recovering nearly 200 rounds in the hallway.

In a statement, MGM which own the Mandalay Bay said "Jesus Campos wants to tell his story at a time and place of his choosing. He's asked that everyone respect his request for privacy. We could not be more proud of Jesus."
