Miami Heat will move charity golf tournament from Trump Doral course: Report

The Miami Heat basketball team is reportedly planning to relocate its charity golf tournament away from one of President Donald Trump's courses in a move that breaks four years of precedent.

The Washington Post cited an unnamed spokesman in reporting Tuesday that the team has decided it will hold its 2018 tournament at a location other than the Trump National Doral resort in the Miami area. The spokesman didn't give a reason for the change, telling the Post, "We're not getting into it."

Per the Post, the team has hosted its event – dubbed the “Heat Scramble” or "Heat Golf Classic" – at the Doral resort every year dating back to at least 2014. The team reportedly also held the charity event there before Trump bought the resort complex out of bankruptcy for $150 million in 2012.

The Post notes that the Heat held its most recent tournament at Doral in August. The event in the past has featured corporate sponsors joining present and past Heat players to play golf.

While the team has not officially commented on the reason behind the decision, pulling its tournament from one of the president's properties follows similar moves from other organizations.

At least 16 pro teams that used to stay at Trump's hotels in New York or Chicago are no longer customers, according to a previous Post story. In August, two major charities – The Cleveland Clinic and The American Cancer Society – announced they were canceling fundraisers slated to be held at Trump's seaside Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. More than 20 groups have reportedly moved or canceled their events there.

Palm Beach-dining setting for the club members. Mar-a-lago is an estate and National Historic Landmark in Palm Beach built by the heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. It was envisioned as a winter retreat for presidents, but never used as such and in 1985 Donald Trump purchased it. The estate contains the Mar-a-lago private club, and a separate closed off area that serve as the Trumps family private quarters..............-the Estate showcases a sumptuous decorative style , everywhere you turned there were lavish accents, but all of these tied together with elegance and an undeniable regal style. I was amazed at the countless details, the estate is truly breathtaking. #palmbeach #maralago #lls #blacktie #gala #glamour #jetsetter #exclusive #liveauthentic #luxury #lifestyle #fashion
