A photo of a drag queen wearing a set of red-tipped horns while reading to children at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library in Long Beach, California, is going viral online.

Shortly after his Drag Queen Story Hour gig at the local library on Saturday, Xochi Mochi took to Instagram with a photo of him reading to a group of children, some of whom appeared to be in costume though an official link for the hour did not describe it as a Halloween-themed event.

“It’s so important to have representation and normalize all the letters in LGBTQIA+ in everyday lives,” Mochi's post read. “I saw so many excited faces it filled my heart with so much joy and hope to come back again soon! Thanks again to everybody who made this opportunity a reality and make such a successful LGBT event.”

After making rounds on the internet, the photo began garnering backlash from hundreds, including a Long Beach congressional candidate, Omar Navarro, KCBS-TV reported.

Navarro, a Republican candidate hoping to fill the chair Maxine Waters now holds in the 43rd District, reposted a photo of Mochi alongside a caption in a tweet, asking, “What are we teaching kids in school? Demonic teachings alive in Long Beach. I’m outraged they would allow this.”

According to KCBS, photos from the event that were posted on the Long Beach Public Library’s social media pages were later removed.

However, the photo did still manage to capture the eye of the Church of Satan, which posted “Hail Satan!” in response to an upset parent's criticism of the event.
