Research shows moss could be the solution to soothing sore throats

Move over lemon and honey. Make room for a new natural remedy that can help soothe sore throats; moss.

Icelandic moss grows throughout Europe and is rich in vitamins and minerals.

The Dailymail reports researchers say this plant provides a sticky substance that coats sore throats and it is thought to help reduce pain and stop germs from multiplying.

Most importantly, it's a great substitute for paracetamol which has been known to risk kidney, liver and heart damage in children.

Interestingly enough, combining Icelandic moss with mallow, a flower with medical properties that can significantly reduce the frequency and intensity of a cough, has proven to bring even greater results according to a study published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Therapy.

This finding can be a viable alternative for parents since children can get as many as 10 upper respiratory tract infections per year, according to scientists at the Common Cold Centre at Cardiff University.
