Hillary Clinton says she's 'shocked and appalled' over Weinstein scandal

Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton released a statement on Tuesday condemning the allegations of rape and sexual harassment against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, saying the behavior "cannot be tolerated."

"I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein," the statement reads. "The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior."

Clinton's statement comes after Weinstein, a major Democratic Party fundraiser, reportedly donated up to $250,000 to the Clinton Foundation, $30,000 to the Hillary Victory Fund, and $5,400 to Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

A-list actresses Meryl Streep, Dame Judi Dench and others have called out Weinstein over the accusations, which were reported in great detail in a New Yorker piece published Tuesday.

Former President Barack Obama, whose daughter Malia interned for Weinstein’s company, has yet to comment on the matter.

CRP’s OpenSecrets site shows Weinstein helped gather donations for Obama, even visiting the White House.

Senators Elizabeth Warren, Al Franken and Cory Booker all say they’ll be donating the money given to them by Weinstein to charity. The Democratic National Committee also pledged to donate the $30,000 it received last year to nonprofits supporting female leadership.
