Ivanka Trump gets schooled after penning op-ed about education

In her White House role, Ivanka Trump as frequently raised her voice in support of initiatives centered on STEM education and women in the workforce.

President’s Trump daughter has taken on women’s empowerment as part of her White House role, but now she’s taking a stab at education and the public is not loving it, saying she is not an expert on either education or tech.

Ivanka wrote an op-ed piece for the New York Post about introducing computer science as early as kindergarten, noting that it was part of her "White House portfolio."

She said the "pathway to well-paying jobs and rewarding careers" must be "well before college or trade school" -- and added that a large number of K-12 schools do not offer tech education.

Of course, the Twittersphere had something to say about it.

People criticized Ivanka, even referring to the recent headlines about her and husband Jared Kushner using private emails while in the White House.

"Perhaps Ivanka can teach kids how to re-route their emails so that they won't be discovered. Also, why does she have a security clearance?"

"It's simple. Ivanka is a big proponent of child labor and she and Jared are clearly looking for a tech-savvy 6-year-old to encrypt their email."

"At 4 years, my granddaughter knew how to use a touch screen w/ Windows 10 to open videos she was allowed to watch. Tell Ivanka it's a thing."

Just last week, President Trump announced a $200 million initiative to make computer coding education a priority in U.S. schools.
