Toddler accidentally shot in the stomach by father cleaning his gun

A young girl in California was seriously wounded after being accidentally shot in the stomach by her father while he was cleaning his gun.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials told ABC 7 they were called to an Apple Valley home late Wednesday night for a report of an accidental shooting.

Authorities were told that the child's father was downstairs cleaning his gun when it went off.

The bullet went through the ceiling striking a 2-year-old girl who was upstairs in a bedroom.

The child was airlifted to the hospital's trauma center where she underwent surgery for the wound to her stomach, ABC reports.

Police have not released an update on the girl's condition.

No arrests have been made.
