Report: North Korean officials are reaching out to Republican analysts for help understanding Trump

Updated

President Donald Trump has ramped up his criticism of North Korea and Kim Jong Un in the past couple of months.

"The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea," Trump said during his first address to the United Nations on Thursday. "Rocketman is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime."

A recent report suggests the rogue nation may be seeking help from unlikely sources to develop a strategy when dealing with Trump. According to The Washington Post, North Korean officials have been talking to Republican-linked analysts in D.C.

North Korea has reached out in an effort to try and understand the president and his confusing messages to Pyongyang.

One person told The Post, "Their No. 1 concern is Trump. They can't figure him out."

Bruce Klingner, a former CIA analyst, was invited to the North Korean capital for meetings, reports The Post.

As well as Douglas Paal who served under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

Meanwhile, some analysts say the name-calling between Trump and Kim Jong Un could lead to, "potentially catastrophic misunderstandings."
