Rep. Gohmert: John McCain should be recalled during cancer treatment

Updated

The claws are out among Republican lawmakers, as it appears less and less likely the latest effort to repeal and replace Obamacare will actually come to fruition.

After Sen. John McCain announced on Friday that he will once again defy his party by voting against the Graham-Cassidy Bill, GOP Rep. Louis Gohmert of Texas had some striking words on FOX News' "Fox and Friends."

"You know, nothing inhibits recovery from cancer like stress," Gohmert said. "I think Arizona could help him and us. Recall him. Let him, you know, fight successfully this terrible cancer. And let's get somebody in here that will keep the word he gave last year."

McCain announced his cancer diagnosis in July. And just days later, with the drama of a hand movement, the Arizona senator helped sink Senate Republicans’ efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare.

McCain has indicated he would have supported a bill similar to this latest effort had it been “the product of extensive hearings, debate and amendment.”

Republican Sen. Susan Collins on "Face the Nation" indicated that she too would vote no.

“I’m really concerned about continued coverage and protection for people with pre-existing conditions. This bill clearly weakens those protections.”

Sen. Ted Cruz has also chimed in, saying that right now they don’t have his vote.
