'Severed hand' triggers highway shut down in UK

Any number of situations can trigger a highway shutdown, and among them is the sighting of a dismembered human body part.

The U.K.’s Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit was alerted Wednesday to a severed hand lying on an area highway, notes Mashable.

Authorities closed a lane of traffic to investigate, and, not long after, announced the results of the examination.

“Officers have attended and it has been found to be a realistic looking ‘severed hand,’” the unit reported in a Facebook post.

The message ended with the request, “No doubt comments will be forthcoming- please!” and many were happy to oblige.

Among the hundreds of corny comments that came rolling in were, “Seems armless enough,” and, “Hope they finger out who digit.”
