Insane footage show buildings wobbling and collapsing during Mexico City earthquake

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Mexico City Tuesday afternoon, collapsing buildings and knocking out power across the region on the anniversary of another tremor in 1985 that left thousands dead.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was near the town of Raboso, roughly 76 miles southeast of Mexico City.

Though the scope of the damage or possible casualties has not been made immediately clear, sickening footage captured by residents and local news stations reveals the early damages inflicted by the powerful quake that caused buildings to sway eerily in Mexico City and forced panicked workers into the streets.

One video even captured building moments before it exploded following the tremor.

This catastrophe also follows after another that occurred earlier this month in the earthquake-prone city when an 8.1 magnitude quake, one of the most powerful tremors in Mexico’s modern history, took place just off the coast of the Pacific and claimed the lives of dozens of residents.
