Trump supporters setting MAGA hats ablaze over president's stance towards ‘Dreamers’

During the campaign, Donald Trump reportedly suggested he could, "stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and...wouldn't lose voters."

And while that may or may not be true, it's become apparent that his working with Democrats to protect the 'Dreamers' is, for some of his base, a step too far.

In recent days, a number of self-described Trump supporters have been burning their Make America Great Again (MAGA) hats.

The new trend follows news of Trump working with the Democrats towards a deal to protect some young undocumented immigrants registered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program.

Many have posted videos showing the flaming headgear and written comments suggesting that Trump's stance on the matter constitutes betrayal.

One person wrote, "When @realDonaldTrump lets the swamp monsters in and shows the base the door...the base fights back -The Deplorables," while another simply used the popular hashtags, "AmnestyDon" and "burnmyMAGAhat."

"I do support his policies that he once stated and campaigned on, but his recent rhetoric is troubling for me and other white Americans," Nathan Simms, a participant in the hat-burning movement, told BuzzFeed News.

The acts of protest come not long after the Trump administration announced an end to the DACA program, but then the president made a number of comments suggesting a softened position.

"Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!" Trump said. "They have been in our country for many years through no fault of their own – brought in by parents at young age."
