The Patriots are favored to win Super Bowl 52 -- but here's where every other NFL team stands

Super Bowl 52 is 149 days away, and oddsmakers are already picking favorites on what team will claim the Vince Lombardi trophy come game day.

Football is back and odds are back -- which means Super Bowl favorite odds are definitely back.

The 2017 NFL season kicks off on Thursday night with a match up between the reigning champion New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs -- and Bill Belchick's squad is poised to go the distance this fall and winter.

According to Bovada, the Patriots are heavily favored with oddsmakers to win Super Bowl 52, but other teams just might give star quarterback Tom Brady a run for his money.

New England is hot. Newly 40-year-old Tom Brady enters his eighteenth year as a Patriot coming off arguably the greatest season of his pro career. Despite wide receiver Julian Edelman's being out for the season with a torn ACL, new roster additions like cornerback Stephen Gilmore and wide receiver Brandin Cooks put the Pats in a strong position to take the season.

Other than the Patriots, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have solid odds of making it to the Super Bowl with 9/1 odds. The Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers currently fall close behind the Packers with 10/1 odds, respectively.

Even with these promising teams eyeing the Lombardi over the Patriots, though, the Washington Post's Adam Kilgore explains why Robert Kraft's dominant franchise is likely to repeat their Super Bowl 51 fate.

"The Patriots are in the middle of the NFL universe in every way, but they are also at the top," Kilgore writes. "This season, with a star-laden roster and a motivated Hall of Fame quarterback, it may be harder than ever to knock them off."
