Mike Huckabee, daughter Sarah Sanders argue with 'View' co-hosts in first joint interview

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and his daughter, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, sat down for their first joint interview on ABC’s “The View.”

"View" panel moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, began by pointing out that Sanders is only the third woman and the only mother to hold the White House press secretary role.

Sanders acknowledged that her appointment to the job is “a big deal” and “a huge step forward.”

She also joked that motherhood prepared her for the White House Press Corps because “she’s gotten good at saying no.”

Regarding President Trump’s previous comments about women, co-host Joy Behar asked Huckabee, “How could you let your daughter defend him?” Huckabee responded by saying Trump has “empowered” women both in the White House and in the private sector.

Huckabee mentioned that Trump opened Mar-A-Lago up to Jewish people when they had previously been excluded.

When "View" co-host Sunny Hostin retorted by saying Trump “didn’t want black people there,” Huckabee’s response was that Trump “hired African Americans to work in his organization.”

As a conservative Christian, Huckabee justified his support of Trump despite words and actions that go against his religion by saying, “No one voted for him to be their Sunday school teacher.”

The pair remained on the air for three segments, which is unusually long for "The View," defending the 45th President and his decisions.

"I’ve spent a lot of time with the President. I’ve never felt anything but respected and empowered," Sanders said.
