Potential new black hole could be missing link in cosmic evolution

A black hole 100,000 times the size of our sun may be hiding near the center of our Milky Way galaxy.

The new study was published in Nature Astronomy, and scientists believe it is actually a very special kind of black hole that has never officially been identified.

Known as an intermediate-mass black hole, the potential new discovery could be the missing link in the evolution of cosmic objects.

Scientists say that the “peculiar” molecular cloud near the center of the Milky Way is displaying some highly unusual properties.

They also say that if the hidden object is an IMBH, it would open up a new avenue to understanding supermassive black holes.

For now, researchers will continue to monitor the mystery object in the hopes of confirming its identity.
