Ivanka Trump criticized for 'silence' over Trump's 'anti-women' actions

First daughter and presidential adviser Ivanka Trump had a relatively quiet week in Washington, but she managed to earn yet another round of criticism as some voices increasingly suggest she has failed to play the role

The latest criticism came as the White House announced its decision to no longer require businesses to report employee salaries based on age, race, and gender.

The White House released a statement on behalf of Ivanka stating the Obama era rule would not produce the intended results.

"We look forward to continuing to work with the (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission), (Office of Management and Budget), Congress and all relevant stakeholders on robust policies aimed at eliminating the gender wage gap," she said.

While the new US president has shown a capacity to change, both his tone and his positions, he has been unable to show the world a 'new' Trump, with a steady presidential style and a clearly articulated worldview. As the symbolic milestone of his 100th day in power, which falls on April 29, 2017, draws near, a cold, hard reality is setting in for the billionaire businessman who promised Americans he would 'win, win, win' for them. At this stage of his presidency, he is the least popular US leader in modern history (even if his core supporters are still totally behind him.) / AFP PHOTO / MANDEL NGAN / TO GO WITH AFP STORY, US-politics-Trump-100days (Photo credit should read MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images)

There was no further explanation as to why the rule would not work.

Ivanka Trump promised to fight for equal pay when she introduced her father at the Republican National Convention. She further shared an Instagram post in April where the  Institute for Women’s Policy Research revealed that women earn only 82% of what men earn weekly.

Her critics were quick to claim the new statement showed weakness, suggesting the first daughter, who has spoken about her support for equal pay for women at length, has failed to successfully advocate for policies that might bring such a change in the Trump White House.

The stance earned her a stinging rebuke from The Daily Show.

"Ivanka’s well-developed brand as a poised woman of wealth and successful young professional is her top priority. Based on months of anti-women actions by the president, and the First Daughter’s silent acquiescence, Ivanka has made clear her priorities. Ivanka has shown us who she is, and we have sadly learned we cannot believe in her—we can only believe her," another particularly critical take claimed

Statistics suggest that black women earn 68 percent and Latina women earn 62 percent of a man’s weekly earnings.
