Employee stops attempted rape at Walgreens
WAKEFIELD, the Bronx (WPIX) — Police have arrested a man they say attempted to rape a woman in the bathroom of a Walgreens' drug store in the Bronx, an attack that was interrupted by a heroic employee who stepped in.
Police on Saturday announced they had apprehended Victor Augustus, 28, a homeless man, in the attempted sexual assault at the store in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. He has been charged with attempted rape, sex abuse, forcible touching, assault and harassment.
A Walgreens employee rescued the woman from the attack, police said.
The attempted rapist approached the 50-year-old victim as she was exiting the bathroom of the White Plains Road bathroom around 3:40 p.m., police said. He pushed her back inside and then shoved her to the ground.
The suspect covered her mouth and attempted to remove the woman's pants as she screamed for help, officials said. A Walgreens employee heard the screams and rushed in.
He pulled the man off of the woman, who then ran off.
