Anglers shoot helpless hammerhead shark in shocking viral video
Animal lovers and wildlife officials nationwide are aghast after a viral video emerged showing what appears to be two anglers firing a gun into a shark and letting it bleed to death in the water.
According to WSVN, the video was sent to animal activist Russ Rector as well as to Florida Fish and Wildlife.
After catching the shark on a rod, one of the fishermen shoots the shark multiple times in the gills as the two men laugh, the video shows.
"He didn't even have the knowledge, the courtesy or the empathy to put the bullet in the shark's head," Rector told WSVN. "He shot the shark repeatedly in the gills. Shooting a shark in the gills is not an instant kill. That shark bled out and suffocated."

Unfortunately, this incident is not the first of its nature.
FWC received a video in June of a shark being dragged behind a boat. The agency is also in the process of investigating a video that purports to show a man using a shark's body as a beer bong.
The video of the shark being shot in the gills has now been made part of a state investigation.
"That video was forwarded to us as a result of the public outcry from the first shark-dragging video. The video is being investigated, and FWC can't confirm identities," FWC said in a statement.
However, the Bradenton Herald is reporting that the culprit could be MTV reality show star Alex Kompothecras. The Siesta Key star is pictured on Facebook with a dead hammerhead shark.
He is also seen on Facebook sporting a Make America Great Again hat and grey shirt similar to what the shooter is wearing in the shark video.
Kompothecras was previously linked to a man accused of being the boater in the shark-dragging video but denied having played any part in it.
A request for comment about the shooting video was not immediately returned by MTV on Monday.
