2-year-old toddler discovered dead outside mayor's home
A 2-year-old child has reportedly been found dead in a car outside the home of a Tennessee mayor.
The child had been left in the vehicle overnight and wasn't discovered until Gatlinburg police were called to the scene at 2 p.m. the next day.
According to the Sevier County Property Assessor's Office, the home is owned by Jerry Kirkman.
Kirkman is the mayor of Westmoreland, a town with a population of around 2,000.
Authorities haven't said who the child is, but the Daily Mail reports friends of the family say the victim was the mayor's grandson.
USA Today reports children's toys were found in the yard.
On the day of the toddler's discovery, temperatures in Gatlinburg were averaging near 90 degrees.
