White House BTS: Melania kisses babies, Ivanka plays mom at congressional picnic

President Trump and the first family hosted Capitol Hill lawmakers at the White House on Thursday evening for the annual congressional picnic.

From first lady Melania Trump to White House press secretary Sean Spicer, many members of Trump's family and inner circle were present at the summer event on Thursday. The first lady could be seen socializing with crowd attendees and holding at least one baby, while President Trump's eldest daughter Ivanka had her hands full with each of her three children.

Check out scenes from the White House congressional picnic:

President Trump addressed the notable absence of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise after he was shot during an attack on lawmakers practicing for the congressional baseball game, saying "it's our hope that this unity that was displayed that evening can maybe continue to grow and thrive."

Trump also noted that Scalise's wife and sons got the "A tour" of the White House.

"Sometimes we give the B, the C, the D," Trump said. "And the F-tour is like, 'Here it is, let's get out of here!'"

Spicer was pictured at one point with a box full of beer, which he was reportedly bringing to members of the media. Former Trump campaign manager and current White House counselor Kellyanne Conway was also pictured on the White House lawn.

Associated Press White House reporter Jonathan Lemire pointed out that the charcoal being used at the picnic was made in Mexico. Trump's presidential platform has included a focus on policies catering to his often repeated "Buy American, Hire American" motto. Purchasing charcoal from Mexico for a major White House event could be seen by some as in direct opposition to what his own rhetoric has called for.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, White House Chief of staff Reince Priebus, National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and Secretary of Commerece Wilbur Ross were all also present at the Thursday picnic.
