Mail carrier arrested for feeding dog meatballs containing nails
An Alabama mail carrier was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty on Thursday after a man on her route told police she fed his dog meatballs containing nails.
Susanna Burhans, a 47-year-old U.S. Postal Service worker, allegedly fed the dangerous treat to at least one customer's dog before she was reported.
Ed Glover told WHNT that he found one of the meatballs on the ground by his mailbox and became concerned after discovering it was filled with nails.
Glover took his dog, Missy, to the vet after suspecting she had already consumed one of the meatballs.
Sure enough, an X-ray revealed nails inside the dog's stomach. Thankfully, Missy's injuries were relatively minor and she is expected to recover fully.
Glover told the outlet he is happy Burhans was charged and he hopes she does not return to her job as a mail carrier.
Burhans has reportedly been released from the Madison County Jail on a $2500 bond.
