Trump tweets: Russia 'must be laughing at the U.S.'

Updated

Amid ongoing news stories and investigations on Russia, President Trump has continued to slam the media.

He tweeted Tuesday morning, "Russian officials must be laughing at the U.S. & how a lame excuse for why the Dems lost the election has taken over the Fake News."

The president didn't mention any specific media outlets or stories that prompted the tweet. However, a CNN story on Russia has been gaining traction Tuesday morning.

CNN reported, "Russian government officials discussed having potentially 'derogatory' information about then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and some of his top aides in conversations intercepted by US intelligence during the 2016 election, according to two former intelligence officials and a congressional source."

Other recent stories have focused on the president's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner. The Washington Post reported Friday on Kushner's attempt to set up a communications back-channel with Russia.

After some relative calm on Twitter during his foreign trip, Trump has been quite active since his return to the U.S.

He lashed out at the media on Monday as well, when he tweeted, "Whenever you see the words 'sources say' in the fake news media, and they don't mention names it is very possible that those sources don't exist but are made up by fake news writers. #FakeNews is the enemy!"
