A 3-week-old baby was killed after her parents walked away from her for five minutes.

According to WOOD, Susannah Murray was left alone in a glider on Thursday evening in Grand Rapids, Michigan, while a group of adults went to the porch.

Five minutes later, one returned and found she had been bitten. Near the infant was a pit bull with blood around its mouth.

Susannah was taken to a local hospital where she died on Friday morning. An autopsy confirmed that her horrific wounds were consistent with a dog bite.

"This is a horrible tragedy and serves as a critical reminder to never leave a child unattended around a dog or dogs or cats," said Grand Rapids Police Cpt. Terry Dixon told the press. "Always keep a watchful eye on vulnerable youth, and that's what makes this difficult to report on."

No charges have been announced in the case. Police say at least one other child lives in the house.

According to WZZM, the three pit bulls that were present at the home at the time are quarantined at the Kent County Animal Shelter.
