Abandoned dog found outside shelter with heartbreaking letter

A dog abandoned at the Henry County Humane Society in Geneseo, Illinois, was found with a heartbreaking message.

A note attached to the creature identified him as "Buddy" and shared his devastating story.

Buddy was found in a small cage on May 21 outside a shelter that is currently under construction. Officials told the Geneseo Republic they have no idea how long the little guy was out there.

The Geneseo Republic shared the full text of the letter.

"Hi, my name is Buddy. I have all my shots. I took flea medication today. I have outgrown the apartment I live in and need a new home with a big yard to run in and (I) am amazing with children. It is very hard for me to leave a home where I am very loved and cherished, but I hope I can bring joy to my new family."

Henry County Humane Society said in a Facebook post on Saturday that it hopes all the attention Buddy's store has gotten will shine a light on other animals in need there.
