Retired soccer star Abby Wambach marries bestselling author Glennon Doyle Melton

Retired soccer star Abby Wambach got hitched to "Christian mommy blogger" Glennon Doyle Melton, according to a wedding photo the couple posted to Instagram Monday.

Melton, the 41-year-old author of the New York Times best seller, Love Warrior, announced the good news via social media after resharing her partner's photo of the two exchanging a kiss on their wedding day Sunday.

"Trust me - you might just wake up one morning and find yourself smackdab in the middle of heaven. I love my wife. LOVE WINS," Melton captioned in one of her posts.

Melton, who has established a following on her Christian blog, Momastery, has long advocated for same-sex marriage.

"Figuring out my stance on homosexuality felt like a life and death decision," Melton wrote in 2013 on her blog. "I know my Jesus, I love Him, and I think if he needed me to believe that homosexuality was a sin, He would have mentioned it."

The two first announced their engagement earlier this year in February, nearly a year after the Christian author announced her divorce from her husband, Craig Melton, and months after Wambach announced her divorce with her wife of three years, Sarah Huffman.

Melton and Wambach, who retired from soccer after the U.S. women's team won the World Cup in 2015, began publicly dating last November.
