New details have emerged regarding the Tennessee teacher Tad Cummins's 38-day trip with a 15-year-old student.

Cummins, the man accused of kidnapping Elizabeth Thomas and taking her across the country, remains in jail as his case heads to a grand jury.

In court the FBI said a great deal of planning went into the escape before the two left on March 13.

Cummins allegedly scoured the internet, looking for the latest info on teenage marriages how to avoid being tracked by a GPS.

According to the FBI, Cummins was allegedly not only able to dismantle his navigation system but tossed their cell phones in the Tennessee River as well.

The FBI also claims Cummins changed his name because the goal was to go to Mexico. The couple's final destination though was a commune in a Northern California town.

A man who recognized Cummins eventually alerted police.

USA Today reports that, during his hearing, Cummins mouthed the words "I love you" to his daughters, sister and father. His attorney says while they do not support his alleged actions, his family is standing by him.
