Bear paws at the back door of Conneticut woman's home after smelling brownies baking

Residents in Avon, Connecticut, say a bear tried to break into a home where their neighbor was baking brownies.

The bear sighting was unnerving for the elderly woman inside of the house as well as her neighbor filming the event.

"My neighbor across the street just came over in a panic, she's a little old lady, screaming that a bear got on the back porch and is slamming on her glass door," Bob Belfiore, an Avon local, told News10.

The woman noticed the unwelcome visitor peering through the sliding glass door at the back of her house while baking the chocolate treats.

Belfiore said he was unsuccessful in aiding his neighbor to shoo away the bear as it wasn't "afraid of noise, screaming or yelling or pounding."

According to the homeowner, the bear stuck around for 30 minutes and pawed at the door before leaving on its own.

In the clip the bear has a tag on its ear, which is applied for research purposes during hibernation season.

Officials told NBC Connecticut that they are looking at the animal's history to see if further precautionary action is warranted. However, they stressed to the outlet that it is common in the area for bears to come into residents' backyards as the population increases.
