Malia Obama was arrested with 'gang of thugs' in Chicago, fake news site claims

Former first daughter Malia Obama has been targeted by fake news this month with false claims that she was arrested in a Chicago gang bust.

The article -- which came from the satirical conservative entertainment website The Last Line of Defense -- says the daughter of former President Barack Obama was arrested after "slipping away" from Secret Service to attend a party at a public park in Chicago.

An excerpt from the article reads as follows:

"Malia Obama may have done irreparable harm to her career this morning when she decided to join a gang of thugs in Chicago for a day of drinking, drugs and dogfighting at a public park in Chicago. Malia was arrested along with seven others and charged with wanton endangerment of animals, public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance."

The article even claimed she Malia Obama has a court date of June 10 for arraignment.

As Snopes explains, the Last Line of Defense discreetly hides the fact that all articles on their site "should be considered satirical and any and all quotes attributed to actual people complete and total baloney." Nonetheless, many readers fall for their shocking headlines, including fans of their Facebook page.

The fake news article's report of Malia Obama's arrest was completely made up, and the image they used was a doctored mugshot grab from a 2013 dogfighting ring bust.

The former first daughter has been spotted repeatedly in New York City in recent weeks, where she is working as an intern.
