Army veteran who recorded herself torturing her service dog found dead

North Carolina police are reportedly investigating the death of an Army veteran who was charged with shooting her service dog as she laughed.

According to the Associated Press, Fayetteville Police Lt. Todd Joyce said they believe 23-year-old Marinna Rollins killed herself.

Joyce said police were called to her apartment early Sunday after her body was found by friends but did not go into detail on what evidence detectives had found on the scene.

Rollins and 25-year-old Jarren Heng were charged with cruelty to animals after investigators found they allegedly tied the dog to a tree and shot it multiple times.

Video from the incident shows that they had been laughing as she did it, according to Cumberland County District Attorney Clark Reaves.

Court documents show Rollins received medical retirement from the Army earlier this year.
