Surprising facts you didn't know about Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte

President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte has appeared often in international headlines since taking office -- and the latest suggests he may be headed to Washington.

President Donald Trump extended an invitation for the controversial leader to visit the White House. Trump suggested the two meet in person during their phone call on Monday about North Korea.

Trump's invite was met with some backlash. Duterte has been accused of human rights violations and also allegedly encouraged the extrajudicial killings of drug dealers and drug users, resulting in thousands of deaths during his first months in office.

The polarizing figure has also referred to more than one world leader as a "son of a wh**e" and has faced impeachment since taking office in May 2016.
