Retired Marine and his girlfriend mysteriously found dead in Belize

An Atlanta man and his Canadian girlfriend who were missing for days in Belize have been found dead, ABC News reports.

Drew DeVoursney, 36, and girlfriend Francesca Matus, 52, were supposed to return from their trip on Friday.

Police have not yet released any information on what they believe happened to the couple.

"That's the hardest part is just that we don't know anything. We don't know where he is, what's going on," mother Char DeVoursney told WSB-TV.

She said no one had seen her son and Marus since last Tuesday.

The family said he had been in Belize since December, and DeVoursney and Matus had been dating for two or three months.

"Talking with everyone down there, it's a complete mystery. It's totally uncommon for both of them to disappear with no contact," Drew's brother David DeVoursney told the station.

According to ABC News, the couple's friend, Joseph Milholen, went to Matus' home on Friday to take her to the airport. He told police that he could not find her at her home and that DeVoursney's bicycle was parked in the driveway, though Matus' car was gone.

Global Affairs Canada, a department of the Canadian government, told ABC News that it is aware of the situation and is providing assistance to her family.

A U.S. State Department official said the department was aware of the reports but did not offer any comment.

The family had set up a GoFundMe account to help find Drew.
