Florida teen advertises classmates as 'slaves for sale' on Craigslist

A Florida high school student has been suspended and placed at an alternative school after posting a photo of two black classmates to Craigslist, labeling them "slavegals" in "good condition."

According to First Coast News, the ad has since been taken down -- but not before sparking outrage from parents and students.

The ad says, in full, "Two healthy negro slavegals for sale. Good condition and hard work ethic! If you need another pair of hands around the farm/house, you're in luck!"

Skye Fefee, who is featured in the photo though her face was blurred for privacy, told CNN she felt "disturbed" by the ad, adding that "it shows me that there is still a lot of racism in this school."

Clay County Superintendant Addison Davis released a statement condemning the post:

We do not tolerate this type of behavior and we are disheartened that any of our students would be subject to discrimination [...] We encourage parents and guardians to take the time to talk to their child about this important matter.

Fefee told First Coast News that this wasn't the first racist incident at the school. She says that Fleming Island High School, called "Fleming Island Plantation" in the Craigslist ad, is actually "known for racial slurs."

Earlier that year, she told First Coast News that someone wrote "whites only" on the toilets. She said that school administration has not dealt with the problem.

"The administration doesn't pay attention to this. They need to better monitor the students."
