8 passengers dead after plane crashes in Cuba

Eight people were killed after a military plane crashed in a remote region in Cuba early on Saturday morning, according to the Associated Press.

The flight, run by government-owned airline AeroGaviota, took off from the Playa Baracoa airport outside Havana at 6:38 A.M. and disappeared shortly thereafter, according to WHIO.

An anonymous source confirmed that the the downed aircraft was found in the western province of Artemisa, located about 40 miles outside of Havana.

The military said it would investigate the crash, but did not immediately release any further information.
