Professional golfer claims his clubs were snapped on United Airlines flight

An Australian professional golfer took to Twitter on Monday, claiming his golf clubs were destroyed during a recent United Airlines flight.

Veteran golf pro Matthew Goggin said he opened his checked bag after his trip, only to discover that his precious clubs were snapped in two.

"First time in 20+ years I've opened my bag to find this..." he wrote. "I was going to complain but I must admit I'm a little intimidated by United."

Apparently, Goggin isn't the only traveling golfer to ever experience this type of mistreatment.

Dan Brooks, the head coach of the defending NCAA champion Duke women's team, shared a harrowing anecdote with Golf Digest about a similar scenario he encountered with his team.

He recalled watching an airport employee stand on a stack of golf bags in their travel covers in order to reach other luggage.

Brooks, who often travels with a lot of golf bags for work, offered the following advice to avoid ending up with butchered equipment.

"Make sure you wrap towels, clothes and whatever you can around the heads of your clubs," he told the outlet.

He suggests that once you finish packing your clubs, look at your case and ask yourself, "would I be OK having someone stand on this?"
