Kellyanne Conway: Trump still considers border wall a priority

President Trump has indicated that in the interest of keeping the government running he "may be willing to wait...to secure federal funding for his controversial wall" along the U.S.-Mexico border, reports Bloomberg.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway appeared on Tuesday's 'Fox & Friends' and stressed that such a move in no way means the president has abandoned that goal.

She told the hosts, "Building that wall and having it funded remains an important priority to him. We also know that can happen later this year and into next year."

Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to justify the budget inclusion, writing, "Eventually, but at a later date so we can get started early, Mexico will be paying, in some form, for the badly needed border wall."

He also tweeted, "The Democrats don't want money from budget going to border wall despite the fact that it will stop drugs and very bad MS 13 gang members."

Trump's Tuesday tweet on the matter read, "Don't let the fake media tell you that I have changed my position on the WALL. It will get built and help stop drugs, human trafficking etc."

Despite Trump's appearance of backing down on wall funding at this time, CNN reported on Tuesday, "A White House official told CNN's Jim Acosta that Trump expects money for the border wall to be included in the bill this week."
