New York City stops traffic for one reason

Can you imagine a car free New York City?

Well, for about six hours you can, sort of.

Yellow cabs will be upset to know the big apple will be closing 30 blocks of Broadway making it a completely car free zone for six hours.

The event is meant to show New Yorkers how much space and resources are given to cars and also how much calmer, cleaner and quieter we are without them, said New York City's council member Ydanis Rodriguez.

Pedestrians and cyclists will get to enjoy the day out and if you don't have a bike CitiBike rentals will be completely free.

Music, sustainability workshops, exercise classes and health focused events will be available throughout the Earth Day celebration.

This will make the largest street closure in New York City.

The car-free concept started in Bogota in the 70's and is now adopted in different cities in Europe and America.

Sorry Uber and Lyft lovers, time to start using your feet!
