Child crushed to death at rotating restaurant in Atlanta
A 5-year-old child was crushed to death on Friday while visiting a rotating restaurant in Atlanta. He became trapped between a table and the wall as the floor of the restaurant rotated.
The boy and his family were at the Sun Dial when he left the table where his parents were.
Atlanta police Sgt. Warren Pickard told a local CNN affiliate he became caught between 4 and 5 inches of space as the floor moved.
"A small child (doesn't) know what to do in those moments," he said. "It crushed his little, small body."
The floor automatically stopped, as it is supposed to do when someone is trapped, but it was too late. The child suffered serious head injuries and died at the hospital.
The manager of the building, George Reed, has issued a statement of condolence to the family, which was visiting from North Carolina.
The restaurant was closed for Easter weekend because of the incident.
