Ex-NFL player Aaron Hernandez found not guilty in 2012 double murder case

A Boston jury found former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez not guilty of a 2012 double murder on Friday afternoon.

Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado were both shot and killed in Boston as they waited at a stoplight on July 16, 2012. Prosecutors described the incident that took place outside a nightclub as a dispute that began over a spilled drink.

Hernandez faced eight counts in all, including murder and witness intimidation. He was only found guilty on one count -- illegal possession of a firearm.

The 27-year-old is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole after he was found guilty of the 2013 shooting of Oldin Lloyd.
