Trump on course to surpass Obama's 2-term travel costs in one year

Since taking office, President Trump has taken many trips to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Florida.

If he continues to travel at his current rate, it is estimated that he will surpass President Obama's two-term travel cost total in a single year, reports CNN.

Throughout his 8 years in office, Obama's expenses for vacations, outings, and official trips reportedly added up to roughly $97 million.

According to CNN, Trump has, in the first 80-or-so days of his presidency, spent an estimated $21.6 million on treks to Mar-a-Lago alone.

While many feel that presidents are fully entitled to take time off for rest and relaxation, Trump has historically not been among them.

His past tweets on the matter include, "We pay for Obama's travel so he can fundraise millions so Democrats can run on lies. Then we pay for his golf," and, "The habitual vacationer, @BarackObama, is now in Hawaii. This vacation is costing taxpayers $4 million + while there is 20% unemployment."

Trump's travel tab continues to grow as he proposes significant budget cuts to a number of government agencies. They include the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the State Department.
