A Florida man was arrested this week after cops say he stole sausage from a grocery store before leaping from a bridge in a bid to avoid arrest.

Police in Fort Walton Beach detained David Bertram after he allegedly snatched $10.38 worth of summer sausage from a Publix and left without paying.

Cops told the Northwest Florida Daily News that Bertram fled as he was being escorted to the patrol car outside the Publix.

He allegedly then ran through a residential neighborhood, across a highway, and onto a bridge.

"He then jumped off the bridge and to the ground, approximately seven to eight feet below," police said.

As the pursuit continued, cops said they used a Taser on Bertram twice before he was finally subdued.

Cops arrested Bertram, and he was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail after he allegedly gave them a fake name.

He's been charged with providing a false name while lawfully detained, shoplifting and resisting an officer.
